Chinese University of Hong Kong (“CUHK”)

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (known as "CUHK") is a university which offers numerous undergraduate and graduate programs and degrees. The university is known for its emphasis on research. The main campus of the university overlooks Tolo Harbour and is said to be the largest and greenest in Hong Kong. The university contains a number of facilities which contribute to an all-around campus experience, including world-class libraries, art museums, sports fields, tennis courts, squash courts and gymnasiums. It should be noted that all LLM programs take place in the central business district on Hong Kong Island at the CUHK Postgraduate Law Centre.

The Law School

The School of Law at CUHK was established in 2004. In a relatively short period of time, the university has already become a center of research and teaching excellence. The Faculty of Law emphasizes independent research and active, engaged learning. Students are encouraged to develop their intellectual and professional skills and reach their full potential in what is considered to be a caring community of scholars, students, and teachers.

The Program

The LLM in Chinese Business Law Programme (taught in English) provides students with a structured course to study the principles, processes, institutions and methods of civil and commercial law in China in the context of an evolving political, economic and social environment. It is designed to enable students to develop a broad intellectual outlook on the legal aspects of doing business with China.

The LLM in Common Law Programme offers students the opportunity to gain an understanding of one of the most significant legal systems in the world shared by countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. Students will gain a critical appreciation of the strengths and limitations of the Common Law and their relevance and responsiveness to the needs of individuals and communities in general, as well as to changing demands of society in periods of social transition and in times of globalization.

The LLM in International Economic Law Programme is designed to offer students an intensive course of study of the law and practice of cross-border business transactions. Students are trained for practice in key areas such as international sales and finance, M&A (mergers and acquisitions), WTO law and international banking law. Skills training modules ensure that graduates of the LLM in International Economic Law programme are able to conduct both practical work and independent research in relevant subject areas.
